Will my launch monitor work with my golf sim software?
The question every home-simulator build starts with, and the one spec sheets answer worst.
The pairing that matters: launch monitor ↔ simulation software. A launch monitor outputs shot data (ball speed, launch angle, spin); the software turns that data into a playable course. GSPro, E6 Connect and TGC 2019 each support a specific set of devices, and support ranges from native integration to community-written connectors to nothing.
Three ways devices connect: direct USB/serial to the sim PC, network output the software listens for, or a bridge app that translates one vendor's protocol into another's. The connection type decides latency and reliability as much as the hardware does.
Read before you buy used: community setups work but break silently on software updates. If a pairing depends on a third-party bridge, check when it was last maintained.
Space matters too: ceiling height requirements differ by swing type and monitor mounting style — the same 9-foot garage that fits one setup won't fit another.
Data quality is not uniform across pairings: the same monitor can send full shot data (spin axis, club path) through its native integration while a community bridge carries only ball speed and carry. If your practice goal is club-path feedback, a pairing that drops that field silently changes what you can work on.
Software versions matter: a monitor listed as compatible with GSPro generally means current GSPro via a specific connector version. After a major software update, connectors lag — check that the pairing is maintained at the version you actually run, not the version a year-old review tested.
Used devices carry pairing risk: older discontinued monitors often lose official support first. They still work, but through community connectors with thinner margins when hosts update.
Which monitors pair with which software versions, and through which connection type, is recorded in the compatibility matrix at GolfCompat, alongside ceiling-height planning notes for common room sizes and notes on where each pairing's data coverage ends.
